This RAUBAY black backdrop measures 152cm by 220cm and comes in a metal casing which attaches at both ends to some sort of support. Fittings are provided so that you can attach it directly to a wall or from brackets although it does fit onto the fittings for a backdrop stand - I found that you didn't need to have a heavy duty backdrop stand as it would not overload a regular one. The casing is metal and at 162cm long and 11cm wide by 7cm across, it weighs only 4.2kg. The bottom of the backdrop is attached to a piece of metal tubing and with the body mounted in position, pulling this piece of tubing will unroll the backdrop and you can make it as long or short as you like. The material itself is tightly woven as you can see in the photograph and absorbs a lot of light. However, producing an area of blackness is not its only function because you can put other materials in front of it and you will not get any light coming through them which would definitely not be the case with a backdrop of any other colour. Getting it to return to its casing is a lot easier than you might suspect because all you have to do is to pull it out a little more - a centimetre or two - and release it. It will then slowly wind itself back into the casing. This backdrop is well-made and heavy duty and should last a long time.

    I've only just gotten around to using this and I have to say I wish I'd done so sooner.

    I have used this for photographing dogs and their parents with fake backgrounds to create fun scenes for doggie birthday parties. The green colour is easily picked up a clean green screen effect.

    I found it easy to retract and use. The wall-mounting options were good and it was simple to put up with an extra pair of hands needed.

    The RAUBAY Retractable Pull Down Screen arrived in an extremely large thin box, it was nicely branded but quite heavy, and was easy to unbox and get set up right away. My first impression is that it is well-made and has a professional finish to it, The screen is a versatile and well-constructed backdrop that is useful for various applications, from streaming, content creation for videos, photography, and even for chroma-keying various things.

    The dimensions of 78.7" x 86.6", it offers a large coverage to create a smooth, uniform background suitable for both personal and professional use.

    Installing the screen is very simple as picking what kind of fixture you want, the wall mount fixture offers a more permanent fixture or you can simply have it hanging if you have the right stands for it.

    While the installation process may require assistance due to the screen's size and weight, the final result is reliable. Once mounted, it operates seamlessly: simply pull it down to the desired length you need, and it will lock into place, to release the screen a quick tug releases the locking mechanism, allowing the screen to retract smoothly. The retraction is steady and controlled, preventing any issues with speed or slamming into the casing so you won't have to worry about damage to the screen or it flailing everywhere.

    The screen material is of high quality, featuring a matte finish and a tightly woven, opaque design that effectively blocks light from behind, it looks and feels professional and the price reflects that

    Overall, the RAUBAY screen is a thoughtfully designed product and an alternative to the Elgato greenscreen. I am only able to review the blue version of the screen, however blue is somewhat better for chroma-keying.

    Having a projector, means I am limited to our white walls for viewing purposes. I opted to order this product so that I could have a perfect white screen to project onto. My project has amazon prime built and I can stream and now watch movies in large format using the screen as well as play PC games in glorious large size.
    I installed the screen onto the wall, which is quite challenging because the size and weight of the item, I need the wife's help to get the screen in place. The screen looks neat on the wall once installed and it is so easy from there to use and retract. Just pull the handle to the desired length and thats it.
    Retracting the screen is also easy, similar to a kitchen or bathroom blind, just pull the screen slightly and carefully let the sturdy metal casing pull up the screen.
    Watching the projector on the screen is fun, but I can also attest to the quality as a photographic back drop. My son needed his passport photograph and was going to pay for a photo at the supermarket booth. I managed to talk him in to taking the photo at home using the screen as the back drop. After following the passport photo guidance, using his smart phone we took a few photos until we got one we were happy with. Once done, we uploaded the photo to the passport application and the photo was graded as above 90% acceptance. The photo was then approved a few days later.
    Excellent product highly recommended.

    There has been multiple occasions where I have been taking photos where I have needed a plain backdrop so I was happy to receive this.

    You can attach it direct on the wall or using the supplied brackets if you want to mount it to the ceiling, I opted to mount directly to the wall and it has been perfectly fine.

    The mechanism for lowering and retracting the backdrop is very much like a blind, you use the string and pull it to release the locking mechanism and let go once you have it at the perfect length and it will lock in place. Retracting is a case of a quick pull down and let go and it will smoothly retract.

    It feels very sturdy and has quite a good weight to it. It feels very well made and provides an excellent backdrop to professional photos or videos and the surface is complete even and smooth and I have yet to notice any issues or imperfections.

    As large as the carton this arrived in, it is surprisingly easy to handle by one person once it's out of the carton. The packing kept the screen isolated from the cardboard, resting in foam blocks that centered it down the length of the box with lots of clearance. I had no problems lifting it high overhead to gauge where I was going to mount it for trials. I shoot in a loft that has no vertical walls or horizontal ceiling. It's like a chalet but calls for ingenuity when it comes to things like rigging up staging or backdrops.

    The weight of the backdrop was safely suspended from two handyman clamps and stout connectors. The spring retention for the roller on this unit is firm so I gingerly pulled it one or two feet at a time to judge my progress safely, until it was touching the floor. All good. Better safe than sorry.

    For retraction, to test out the description that this will roll itself under control back into the metal enclosure I quickly got the feel of the motions to make so it would keep retracting when I stopped pulling down. Also I detected a 'click' sound from the enclosure that was my hint it had just switched into retraction mode. The notes mention it will retract at safe speeds that will depend on ambient temperature. My room is at 25°C and it took 6 seconds for the last meter of exposed screen to be pulled up into the enclosure.

    OK, the actual screen material. IT IS BLACK. IT IS STIFF. Some of the photos might give the impression it is a grey-black but the total blackout is what I was actually seeing. The material is like a doubled or triple bonded tarp in stiffness and in how opaque it is. I have a SCUBA divers light and I could put it on high and hold it against the material from the back and . . . nothing. No indication there was anything on the other side of the backdrop. It has a matte finish too with a very tight 'weave' that is only visible up close. I never had to adjust for it in processing.

    This is a well-made, professional use white background that won't rip like paper or crease like cloth. The white surface is pure white and highly reflective, providing a clean background for all sorts of photography. The material is sturdy and completely opaque, so there is no risk of extraneous light coming in from behind. The back is useful, too. It is a plain black and can also be used as a background. The screen pulls out and can be adjusted to any length. Putting it away is a breeze, too. Professionals may need a larger area, but for portraits and full body shots I cannot recommend it too highly.

    This is a very high quality pull down screen.

    Made by RAUBAY, this is a well designed retractable pull down screen backdrop. I do a lot of YouTube and Instagram videos and also self tapes and photographs...all of which can be challenging to do in a home. This screen changes all of that, and once installed gives me a perfect backdrop for all of my work, that looks very professional, with a nice clean look, and also looks so good in the videos and photos that I take.

    The screen is available in different colours, and the grey colour works very well for my various needs.

    This is a great screen for taking my video content and home photos to the next level. 5 stars!
