Having worked for one of the big, UK central heating manufacturers for over 50 years, I was pretty disappointed with their lack of affordable thermostats with built in WiFi. Not only that but many were ugly looking things.
After doing a bit of research I found this little gem on Amazon. Not only is it affordable and good looking but it's packed with useful features and yet still manages to be reasonably simple to use. Installation was fairly straight forward. It took 3 attempts at connecting the stat to my WiFi network but once I realised I had to temporarily disable the 5.0 GHz band on my router it connected fine. Like many devices today the instructions could be better. Once connected it was easy enough to set heating schedules and configure the thermostat to my preferences. Time will tell as to how well it performs and how long it lasts but for now I'm more than happy with it.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the thermostat, which integrates seamlessly with Apple HomeKit. The native app is also easy to use and makes setting up a schedule really straightforward.

The installation process was slightly challenging as it wasn’t immediately obvious how my current wiring worked with the MTS200 and simply connecting the wires to the same terminals wasn’t sufficient as no heat was called when the temperate dropped.

However, after consulting the support team, they advised me to mirror the wiring but bridge the L and COM terminals with the included bridging wire - this worked, but wasn’t included as an eventuality in the installation guide.

All in all, once installed, a natty product at a very reasonable price. I’d recommend, but bear in mind you might need support to get the wiring correct.

I wasn't aware of this at the time of order, I thought it was portable just like my current one. When ordering this, please ensure that you have an old thermostat panel which you can swap with this one, or prepared to have this installed professionally.

I wanted a simple digital smart thermostat to replace a Drayton manual thermostat and this appeared to fit the bill on paper.

I'm sorry to say in practice, its badly thought out rubbish.

My situation was a dual zone system that has a controller and a thermostat. The wiring for my particular thermostat was "Live", "Neutral" and "Call". Apparently this is not an uncommon system, but nothing like this was explained in the very poor instructions.

I did sort it out, but it was only due to the reviews on here that allowed me to experiment. But we should not be experimenting with things like this, it should be clear, or non-existent (it's either DIY or it is only for qualified persons to fit).

But anyway, I got there, and yes, I got it fitted. What you have to do if you have a separate controller/timer (I have a Horstmann three channel timer programmer) is to set to "Constant" or "On" or whatever is your permanently on setting. If you do not, the thermostat goes blank as the power is effectively turned off. There is no battery backup.

Leaving the programmer constantly on isn't a big issue, IF the thermostat is reliable.

It isn't.

I did manage to get the thermostat paired to the app. The real problems began now. I wanted to set the heating to come on for an hour in the morning, an hour at lunchtime and a couple of hours in the evening, hardly unusual I would have thought. You can't do that. For some reason known only to the manufacturer, it has limited timers, and these are; three on and two off. What?!
So for example, you can turn on the heat at 9am, turn off at 10am. Turn on again at 1pm and off at 2pm. Then you can turn it on at 6pm.......but you can't turn it off again! I could not for the life of me tell when the heat would turn off as it remained on until the pictorial graph ran out at midnight, so I assume it turned off at midnight, I have no idea.

So I tried the alternative app that is listed in case it was better, but despite a factory reset, I could not get it to connect to the alternative app (despite a 2.4ghz only network being employed). Resetting again it wouldn't connect to the original app either.
I tried seven times to get it to connect, it refused every time.

I sent the whole sorry product back to Amazon who refunded me immediately.

I'm not sure where the positive reviews come from, but I can't think its from genuine owners. Unless those owners only use the thermostat and not the timer.

The timer is not functional beyond two timed periods.
The instructions for fitting are diabolical.
The device's connection to wifi is shaky at best. (My Deco router was 10 feet away with line of sight)
It's a typical, badly thought out device with limited functionality that is difficult to use.

I highly recommend looking elsewhere.

Good thermostat, seems well made. Works as a direct replacement for an existing mains wired thermostat. Good value too.

My one complaint is the poor instructions for the wiring. It wasn’t obvious how the existing wiring was supposed to fit into the new thermostat. The live and neutral were easy enough but the need for a bridge wire from the live to the common was very poorly explained. Similarly it wasn’t clear whether the remaining wire should go into the NC or the NO. Inevitably connected it to the wrong one the first time, but it worked fine once switched over.
When connecting the thermostat to your Wi-Fi, if you have a router with both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies (which most probably are nowadays) you need to temporarily switch off the 5Ghz before trying to connect. Still didn’t work first time for me, so I restarted the router. Then it worked fine.
You also need to have iCloud enabled if using Apple devices.
